ABOUT THE ARTIST ESTHER ENGELMAN “The springboard that developed the solid structure for my work was an early emphasis on drawing. This gave me the ability to reduce a composition to its strongest and simplest elements, recording just enough detail, while still retaining the natural atmosphere and color of the location.”
“Always dependable, nature presents itself in perfect color, atmosphere and composition. Nature is universal and timeless. “
“Rarely will my painting include modern day objects which I feel alter nature's tranquility. I attempt to go beyond the re-creation of an object and instead re-create mood, atmosphere and condition. I paint the paintings I truly want to live with, always yearning for romance and escape, while extending an invitation to the viewer to linger and escape as well.”
Esther Engelman, born in Chicago, Illinois, grew up in Southern California where she attended Chouinard Art Institute. She is known for her beautiful seasonal landscapes, seascapes, winter scenes, and gardens in both oil and pastel and mediums. During her long career and extensive world travels, many of her subjects reflect impressions of such locales as Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, France, Holland, Canada and the United States, notably the East and the West coasts. Her work has been exhibited at museums such as The Bowers Museum where she became a two-time award winner at the Annual “Sights of Santa Ana” Exhibition, Carnegie Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, Fredrick R. Weisman Museum, Pasadena Historical Museum, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Phippen Museum, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Muchenthaler Cultural Center.
Engelman, an internationally published artist, is also a featured artist with Bentley House Fine Art Publisher in New York and California.
